Basic requirements for Honduras work visas

Each applicant can have slightly different requirements, depending on their country of origin and various other factors. However, there are some basic requirements that most people will need to fulfill, including:

  • A recent health check
  • Passport-sized photos
  • Criminal record check from Honduras and home country

Types of Honduras work visas and permits

Nationals of most countries do not need a visa to travel to and stay in Honduras for up to 60 days, including for some business activities. Others, however, do need a visa to enter and will need a specific visa for business-related activities, so you should determine whether a visa is necessary first. 

Those seeking full employment in Honduras will generally need a Special Residence Permit which is valid for between one and five years. Once this period has ended, the employee can switch to a Temporary Residence Permit to stay long term.

How to get Honduras work visas and permits

One of the most important steps in the process is for you (the employer) to apply for approval of the employment contract, which should be done through the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. Once you have approval, your employee should apply for their residence permit. Other considerations

The process of gaining work approval and residency is complex and often slow, so you should be sure to regularly check with the relevant authorities about each stage of the process. It can also take over a year to complete the process so you should be prepared to initiate it well in advance of the planned move. 

As Honduras is a Spanish-speaking country, you will generally need to provide documents in Spanish, which may mean you need to translate existing documents before submission.
